Task 1 (5 minutes)

Complete the tasks before watching the three videos.

a. Have you heard of Project Based Learning (PBL), or used it in your own teaching context? 

b. Based on what you know, how is PBL different from traditional teacher-fronted classes?

Task 2 (10 minutes)

Part A. Think back on the activities you have used in your classrooms and answer the following questions.

a. Are the activities in your classroom teacher-led or student-led? 

b. Who organises the activities (e.g., decides on the activity’s content and the time spent on the activity)? 

c. Are the activities in your classroom short term (finished within one class) or long term (over several class periods)? 

d. Do the activities in your classroom have real-world application or are they assessment driven?

Part B. Now think back on the materials you have used in your classrooms and answer the following questions. 

a. Are the materials in your classroom decided by /prepared by teachers or students? 

b. Who organises the materials (e.g., who chooses materials and regulates their use)? 

c. Are the materials in your classroom short term (finished within one class) or long term (over several class periods)? 

d. Do the materials in your classroom have real-world application or are they assessment driven? 

e. Now compare your answers to Part A and Part B. Do your materials align with your classroom activities or is there a mismatch? Can you think of any problems that may arise?
